The UCF Art Gallery will host a closing reception for an exhibition honoring Larry Cooper, coinciding with Art Knight 2026. The show celebrates Cooper’s three‑decade career at the university as an artist, master book artist, printmaker, educator and collaborator. It notes his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Memphis College of Art, his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia, and his founding of Gardyloo Handmade Books in Memphis, Tennessee, where he developed traditional hand bookbinding and book arts.
Cooper joined UCF in 1996 as an assistant printmaker and helped establish the university’s book arts program, introducing generations of students to handmade books. His collaborative work produced artist books and editions that entered major collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. His own artwork is represented in collections that include the National Gallery of Art, the Library of Congress, the J Paul Getty Museum, the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
The exhibition presents Cooper’s work as both a celebration and remembrance, highlighting his influence as a teacher, assistant director of the gallery and mentor who fostered collaboration and generosity within the creative community. Further details about his career are available through the gallery’s remembrance page.
