Valencia College Theater is presenting the Florida premiere of Yaga, a modern adaptation of a Slavic folk tale, opening on Oct. 3 with seven performances at the Black Box Theater on the college’s East Campus at 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail in Orlando.
The plot follows a detective who arrives in an isolated town to investigate the disappearance of a young heir to a yogurt empire, working with a reluctant sheriff, a university professor and an eccentric cast of townsfolk. The story weaves the Baba Yaga myth into a mystery involving secret lives, ancient magic and multiple suspects. Reviewers have praised playwright Kat Sandler’s interpretation of the legend.
Performances are scheduled for Oct. 3, Oct. 4, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m., Oct. 6, Oct. 9, Oct. 10 and Oct. 11. The production is rated for ages 16 and up because of mature themes, strong language and dark or violent content. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for staff, alumni and senior citizens, and $8 for current students, with a $2 processing fee for credit‑card purchases. Tickets can be purchased online, and the box office can be reached at 407‑582‑2900 or boxoffice@valenciacollege.edu.
